    Bonjour!

Welcome to Rhosnesni High School's French pages.

Here you will find French vocabulary revision, links to websites, exam revision and much more.
We will update content regularly so keep checking in!
  • All pupils in Key Stage 3 will study French. We currently teach in mixed ability groups and pupils will have two lessons each week. In year 10 pupils have the opportunity to study French at GCSE level and we are looking at introducing NVQ French and perhaps even Spanish in the future! Year 10 and 11 pupils have 3 lessons each week.

    Staff

The French Department consists of four modern linguists:

    • Mrs Catton - Subject Leader
    • Mrs J Fell
    • Mrs J Baldwin
    • Mrs F Williams

    Books and Equipment

We  are all based in our own classrooms which are filled to the brim with language resources! All rooms have a data projector and we have access to the computer suite when necessary. We mainly use Equipe 1,2 and 3 although we also have a range of resources available via ICT.

We feel that as a Department we are well equipped, with access to the very latest foreign language teaching and learning materials. During lessons, your child will have full access to a wealth of support materials.

The Department has a limited supply of dictionaries so it would be advantageous if you could purchase your son/daughter a small French-English dictionary for use in the classroom and at home.

    Expectations

    Parents can help by:

    • Helping your child to find the best way to learn vocabulary and phrases by heart.
    • Checking that homework is being completed to the best of your child's ability and handed in on time.
    • Encouraging pupils to seek help with problems prior to their next languages lesson.

    Pupils can help themselves by:

    • always having the right equipment
    • listening carefully to their teacher and to others
    • always completing their homework
    • learning vocabulary on a regular basis
    • checking their work carefully for spelling and grammar
    • asking for help BEFORE the home work is due in

On Monday 7th July, Mr Ian Ward from Manor Adventure came to the school and spoke to parents about the centre. There will be another meeting in October where we will be able to give you more details about our exact itinerary.

We hope to organise several excursions so that pupils can appreciate the culture of France but we will also be setting them tasks to complete as we also want to focus on improving their language skills! All pupils will receive a study booklet before we go and they will have opportunities during the visit to complete exercises based on the activites they have done.
